[St. Paul, MN]  On June 11, the Trump Administration directly threatened the future of Minnesota's Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Administration officials Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced on X that they will start the process of reversing a 20-year moratorium on mining on Superior National Forest land, surrounding and within the Boundary Waters’ watershed. Sierra Club issued the following statement in response.

"The Sierra Club condemns this announcement, which puts the Boundary Waters at grave risk," said Margaret Levin, State Director of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter. "As Minnesotans we care about our home and each other. We will continue to fight alongside northern Minnesota’s downstream communities, tribal nation leaders, businesses and concerned local residents, and confront the threat of proposed sulfide ore mining across our state."
