Invasive plants in the landscape often leave gardeners confused and overwhelmed. Some invasives are smothering our trees and threatening to take over the world, and some are still for sale in garden centers.
Join us at our August WNC Sierra Club meeting for a discussion about how to identify and remove invasive plants, and how to replace them with native ones.
Bob Gale, retired ecologist & Public Lands Director for MountainTrue, will discuss the ecological problems presented by these non-native invasive plants and provide strategies and methods for dealing with them in backyards, gardens, and larger acreages. He will also provide resources for selecting native tree, shrub, and groundcover alternatives.
Bob was educated at the University of South Carolina, where he received a B.S. in Geology and Biology. His special interest is botany, and he has spent his life working in fieldshttps://unca.aimsparking.com/permits/?cmd=new_non_auth related to this subject. He spent many years in the landscaping industry and as a certified arborist working in urban forestry.
After 25 years working as Forest Ecologist with MountainTrue on public lands, Bob retired and started his business, RestoraFlora, to help private landowners with invasive plant control and native plant replacement.
