Message from the Chair

Dear Members and Followers.

The Sierra Club Upstate, serving Greenville, Spartanburg, and nearby counties, urgently needs your help. Since 1971, our local Sierra Group has made a lasting impact in the Upstate community as part of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer environmental organization.

With many of our founding members stepping down, we are undergoing a transition: moving from “The William Bartram Group” to the “Sierra Club Upstate,” now a committee within the Foothills Group. Unless we can build a new core team of active volunteers this year, our long-standing Sierra Club Group will have to dissolve.

We’re not asking for money, just your time and enthusiasm! We hope that active volunteers join us to help lead campaigns, organize hikes and meetups, and ensure our local voice remains strong on environmental issues. That's why we are reaching out to you!

If you’re interested in getting involved, you're warmly invited to join our monthly Zoom planning meetings, typically held on a Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 pm (details will be sent by email). Even if you can’t attend, please confirm your interest by sending us a quick email message to sierraupstate@gmail.com and express your interest in getting involved.

Together, we can keep our local Sierra Club vibrant and effective. Thank you for your support!

Warm regards,
Gary Harbour
Sierra Club Upstate.
