Last Month's Events

• Earth Day USC Upstate Campus • Susan Jacobs Arboretum, USC Spartanburg •

The Bartram Group along with other environmental and governmental organizations in the Spartanburg area participated in the annual Spartanburg Earth Day Festival on the USC Upstate Campus in the Susan Jacobs Arboretum on Tuesday, April 16 2 -6. The event was attended by the USC Upstate and Spartanburg community. The Sierra Club table was a popular destination attracting enthusiastic attendees who had lots of great questions about climate and environmental issues. Conversations often continued as newcomers to our table joined in. After talking with students throughout the festival many of us left more optimistic and encouraged about the future of our planet.

 • Earth Day Litter Clean-Up & Festival • Unity Park, Greenville •

Unity Park in downtown Greenville on Saturday, April 20, 2024 was a perfectly beautiful day for the Earth Day Litter Clean-up and Festival. The morning was focused on litter clean-up along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The afternoon included an Earth Day Festival with environmentally focused vendors and several environmental organizations including the Sierra Club Bartram Group and Citizens Climate Lobby. Our area attracted many attendees, parents and children concerned about the environment and climate issues. After amazing conversations visitors were very excited to be given a Happy Earth Day gift from the Bartram Group containing a wildflower seed ball, wildflower seed card and Milkweed seeds to plant for Monarch butterflies.

• Picnic Lunch in Memory of Jack Seitz • Hatcher Garden, Spartanburg •

On Tuesday April 16, we gathered at the Hatcher Garden in Spartanburg to honor the memory of Jack Seitz, a long time Sierra Club Bartram Group member who passed away months ago. We honored his contribution to local environmental causes with a monetary donation to the Hatcher Garden. In celebration of his life, we enjoyed the beauty of the gardens, and visited with members of the Sierra Club.
