Vermont 2022 Endorsement for U.S. Congress

SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES BECCA BALINT FOR CONGRESS

Nation’s Largest Grassroots Environmental Group Praises Work to Act on Climate and Prioritize Helping Vermonters

Montpelier, Vermont:

Today, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Becca Balint in Vermont’s Congressional election.

"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Becca Balint," said Vermont Sierra Club Executive Committee Chair Peter Malicky. "We are confident that she will continue work to protect Vermont’s families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Vermonters.”

We are at a critical moment. The pandemic, which further exposed the inequities embedded in our economy, has touched nearly every one of us, and the climate crisis continues to threaten our clean air and water, our public lands, and our collective futures. That’s why it is critical to elect champions like Becca Balint who will prioritize our communities and our future. Becca has been a true champion on environmental issues.

As Majority Leader of the Senate, Balint led the Senate to override the Governor’s veto and ensure the Global Warming Solutions Act became law. As President of the Vermont Senate, Balint prioritized climate action by shepherding a budget that included $200 million in cost-cutting and carbon-reducing strategies, including $80 million in clean and affordable heating and weatherization services for low- and moderate-income Vermonters, expanded incentives and grants for electric vehicles (EVs) and EV charging equipment, investment to help to ready homes and our state’s energy grid for electrification, investments in our climate workforce, and aid to municipalities to reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint.

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Balint’s campaign.

"We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Becca Balint is elected," said Peter Malicky. "We look forward to a victory for Becca Balint on election night.
