Arizonans Urge Senators Kelly and Sinema to Support the Build Back Better Act

The Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter and a coalition of partners recently delivered thousands of signatures to Arizona senators Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly urging them to support the Build Back Better Act.

The chapter joined Mi Familia Vota, Moms Clean Air Force Ecomadres, Arizona Interfaith Power and Light, and Defend Our Future to deliver a petition with 1,300 signatures, a letter signed by  2,000 faith leaders, a letter from several hundred organizations, and a photoboard of supporters.

“Arizona communities need Senators Sinema and Kelly to understand that investing in a clean energy future is essential to meeting the state’s climate goals, and the Build Back Better budget is the best policy to make it happen,” said Sandy Bahr, director of the Grand Canyon Chapter, during one of the delivery news conferences..

The Build Back Better Act is the cornerstone of President Biden's agenda. It would:

  • Create a fast track toward powering the country with 100 percent clean energy, which will slash air and climate pollution.

  • Invest  in public transit and union-built electric vehicles.

  • Replace lead pipes in communities across the country.

  • Create millions of good jobs through a Civilian Climate Corps.

  • Protect the Arctic Refuge from oil drilling.

“Arizonans are grappling with the impacts of climate change daily, seeing worsening drought and extreme heat, which has life-and-death consequences for many people,” said Bahr. “Not acting on climate is one of the most costly things we can do.”

Your help is needed! Tell your members of Congress that the cost of inaction is too high -- they must pass the Build Back Better Act to address the climate crisis, create good union jobs, and take on racial and environmental injustice!
