Sierra Club Activists Did Amazing Things This Summer—Let's Keep It Going

Sierra Club activists are an inspiring group—especially because of how strong you all showed up in the past month.

In these challenging times—surrounded by climate disasters, a resurging pandemic, racial injustices, and all that comes with these crises—what we accomplished together over the last few weeks is incredible! Thank you!

Thousands of Sierra Club volunteers organized and attended 88 events in key districts across the country. You lobbied your members of Congress, met up with neighbors and friends in parks, back yards, and in virtual rooms to take action together—many for the first time!—to fight for our vision of a better future.

From Bozeman, MT to Columbus, OH, from Morgantown, WV to Norfolk, VA, from Phoenix to San Francisco, and everywhere in between we made our message loud and clear to Congress: We must pass the transformative $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill that centers climate, economic, and racial justice.

What does this future we're fighting for look like?

  • An economy running on 100% clean energy. Millions employed with good-paying jobs.

  • Reliable public transit in every community, with electric buses, high-speed rail, and a national network of bike lanes and electric vehicles charging stations

  • Replaced toxic lead pipes bringing clean drinking water to all.

  • Electrified and efficient buildings that ensure clean air in our homes, hospitals, and schools.

  • Our beautiful natural landscapes protected, accessible and responsibly enjoyed by all.

This is a future where all can thrive, no matter your income, race, or zip code. Together we are creating change powered by people.

What’s more—we're getting noticed. We are hearing from congressional leadership that members of Congress saw our work this past month.

We’re in the final stretch. We must ensure this budget reconciliation bill—with unprecedented investments that meet the crises we face—gets across the finish line. Congress is returning to work this week to finalize the details, and then they plan to pass it by the end of September.

This means we have only a few weeks to defend the size of this package. Our communities deserve nothing less than $3.5 trillion to help realize a livable future for all of us.

That's why we're asking you to join us for a big push to get this across the finish line.

Starting September 20, we’ll be holding two virtual events each week to pressure our members of Congress. RSVP for either an action party every Tuesday or a phone bank every Thursday -- or both! -- to fight for this future we all deserve.

If you thought about organizing your own event, but haven't yet—there's still time! Many folks are still holding their events in the days to come. Also, if you already hosted an action party or lobby visit—consider hosting the other, and invite more friends and neighbors to join you! We have step-by-step guides and recorded trainings to support you along the way. It's all at sc.org/summer2021

It's been a long road, and a challenging few months and years. After what feels like a marathon, our muscles are aching. But the finish line is within reach—we must not let up now!

We'll be lobbying swing votes in the House, driving hundreds of calls into key senators' offices, and it's going to take each of us to make it through. Join us. Let's finish strong this month!
