Helping hands

Outings Leader

Outing leaders take people outside to explore and enjoy our natural environment in a structured fashion that is safe and enjoyable. Outings can be hikes, paddling trips, bike rides and other activities exploring the outdoors. We also do clean-ups and other service projects.

Outing leaders need to be Sierra Club members, at least 18 years old, trained in CPR/First Aid and have skills appropriate to the activity - hiking, paddling, etc. Many outing leaders do one or more outings a month, while some lead outings less frequently. Each outing would require about 6-8 hours to organize and lead.

We help train you!

Information Booth Leader

Looking for people to run Sierra Club information tables for public events. Some of our past events have included Right Whale Festival, Wild Amelia's Nature Fest, and others.

The Booth Leader will coordinate the Nassau Sierra Club information table at events such as these and also research and be the contact for other such events where we could want to have a presence.

We have a small list of volunteers who have helped on past events, so the position would involve staffing the booth with these volunteers and continuing to recruit new volunteers.

We are in the process of designing new displays. Eventually the information booth leader will be responsible for storing these materials between events and coordinating the delivery of the materials to events.

Typically, we exhibit at two major events per year but would like to expand. The leader will be responsible for submitting the exhibitor application for each event and be the contact for events between the event management and with the Nassau Sierra Executive Committee.

Sierra Club Outreach

Outreach person will welcome new members to our group. Send out thank you's to community members that donate space, time, and money to our Group. Work to develop awareness of our Group in Nassau County especially among younger activists who live locally.

Activities may include:

  • Outreach activities, including multiple social media channels with a focus on increasing engagement among young people.
  • Helping plan and design digital outreach campaigns with the Executive Committee on Tiktok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, etc. in order to post in the most effective ways
  • Basic design experience would be helpful

Executive Committee Elections Soon

Run for Executive Committee

John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club, would like environmentally aware individuals to run for a spot on the Nassau County Group’s Executive Committee. The Executive Committee (ExCom) of the Sierra Club Nassau Group has several positions up for election for the 2024-2025 period. The Committee has a total of 7 members, each serving two-year terms. Candidates must be Sierra Club members, passionate about protecting our local environment, willing to help promote the Sierra Club mission and group goals, and attend monthly meetings.

We are accepting nominations until October 15th, and hope that you (or a friend) will step up to run in the election.  A short bio telling other Sierra Club members about yourself and why you want to serve on the Executive Committee, with a limit of 250 words, should be submitted to one of the following email addresses:
