Single-Use Plastic Plus

Sierra Club activists across the country are energized to fight the growing scourge of single-use plastic pollution which contributes to climate change, pollutes our parks and waterways and threatens our health. It’s time for action!

Fighting single-use plastic requires a robust policy response coupled with public and private sector engagement to change mindsets and practices.  Recycling, litter cleanups and consumer-focused measures simply can’t keep up with the production of single-use plastic packaging -- expected to double over the next twenty years.

We need to focus on measures to reduce plastic production at its source, limit the use of single-use plastic and embrace reusable packaging solutions. Our outreach highlights the causes and dangers of plastic pollution, such as microplastics and toxins, and leads to an understanding of the systemic changes required. While consumers have a role to play in refusing, reducing and reusing, real change can only come through impactful business models.

Our current efforts are focused mainly on single-use plastic, while we are also working to reduce other single-use products.

These web pages are designed to support Sierra Club activists in their education, advocacy and outreach efforts.
