Do Your Part and Help End Single-Use Plastic Pollution!

The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act helps reduce plastic at every stage of its lifecycle: at the source, where plastic creation accounts for 14% of oil use, in use, and after it is discarded.

To tackle plastic pollution, we need big, systemic change.

Plastic pollution is a global issue that is killing wildlife, ending up in our oceans and waterways, and lasting far longer than it is used. And while individual action adds up, we also need big, systemic change and a way to hold those in power accountable. That's why we need to pass the groundbreaking Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act. The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act will ambitiously tackle plastic waste and production — at the source, on a national scale, and by holding the companies producing plastic responsible, rather than consumers or communities.

The plastic industry — also known as the oil and gas industry, as plastic is actually made from fossil fuels — is not helping. Despite feeble attempts to create "solutions," they continue to fail to address the root cause of the plastic pollution problem: all of the wasteful, single-use plastic that is being made and distributed.

Cleaning up plastic waste in our environment without decreasing the amount of plastic created is literally the equivalent of mopping the ocean floor. Doesn’t make any sense, right?

Take action now and let's demand that Congress put the health of people and the planet ahead of corporations and polluters' profit.

Take Action Now

The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act boldly tackles both plastic waste and production by:

- Requiring plastic producers to take responsibility for collecting and recycling material, including covering the cost of waste management — yay for accountability.

- Banning the sale and distribution of certain single-use plastic products starting in 2022 — yay for all the cute reusables out there!

- Setting a moratorium on new plastic-producing facilities and investigating the harm caused by current petrochemical plants to our air, water, and climate — yay for our wildlife, and our health.

It's past time we put an end to single-use plastics.
