Our Hoosier Sierra Club Team consisting of Megan Anderson, Julia Lowe, Joab Schultheis, Robyn Skuya-Boss and Jocelyn Travis participated in the Indiana NAACP Legislative Day. This annual event was held in the atrium of the Indiana State House on February 26. The theme was “Striving Together” and the focus was on issues of Racial Justice, Environmental Climate Justice, Education, Healthcare and Stopping the Violence.

In addition to NAACP Youth & Adult Leaders joining from across the state, numerous Indiana State Representatives and State Senators welcomed the group and provided vital information and updates on current legislation. Issues discussed included: SB1 (3rd Grade Retention Bill), SB5 (Lead Funding), SB202 (Anti DEI), Community Solar and much more.

Newly elected NAACP State President, Sadie Harper-Scott introduced the Hoosier Team and allowed us the opportunity to share information on the Sierra Club and our 2024 issue priorities.

We want to thank Dr. J.B. Pressey, Jr. for inviting us to attend the Legislative Day and will certainly look forward to supporting future NAACP events. It provided a wonderful networking opportunity and was extremely informative.
