Pollinator Restoration

Oklahoma Sierra Club educates the public about pollinator decline and its relation to pollinator habitat decline. We also collaborate with other groups to support public restoration efforts.

Over 75 percent of all the flowering plants on earth depend on pollinators, including bees, butterflies, birds, and bats. However, pollinator populations around the world are experiencing an alarming decline due to a number of factors, including habitat loss, climate change, and the widespread use of pesticides.

Here are a few ways you can help!

  • Grow a variety of flowers and herbs that are native to your area, which can provide food throughout the year for pollinators. Find pollinator-friendly plants for your area here
  • Create nesting or sheltering areas like butterfly gardens and bee hotels.
  • Avoid using pesticides.
  • Support local conservation efforts.

Pollinator Garden Project

Oklahoma Sierra Club collaborates with the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Education Program (OREEP), whose mission is to educate students across Oklahoma about embracing, exploring, and advancing the science of renewable energy, conservation, and sustainable practices.

The Pollinator Garden is one of many projects created by OREEP to help teachers and students learn more about environmentally friendly practices. Learn more on their website.
