Protesters Flood U.S. Cities in Solidarity With Immigrants

Hundreds of thousands of marchers gathered in more than 700 cities and towns across the U.S. this past Saturday, June 30, to demonstrate their support for immigrants and voice their opposition to the Trump administration’s immigration policies. The Sierra Club mobilized its members to join one of the 600-plus rallies held from coast to coast to demand that the nearly 2,500 immigrant children who have been forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border under Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy be reunited with their families.

Despite what was variously described as “sweltering,” “stifling,” and “scorching” heat, an estimated 30,000 people, many of them recruited by the Sierra Club, marched through downtown Washington, D.C., to a rally in Lafayette Park, across from the White House, where they sang, chanted, held aloft signs, and listened to speakers and singers for hours under a “searing” sun. Among the ralliers was Javier Sierra, the Sierra Club’s associate communications director (and an immigrant himself), camera in hand. We’ll let Sierra’s images do the talking.
