Pearisburg, VA -- On Saturday, Sierra Club organizers and several allies will join hands in resisting the proposed Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines. The event will draw speakers from multiple public lands advocacy groups and residents who will stress the importance of  protections for our National scenic trails, wildlife and residents. A distinct photo opportunity includes the crowd joining hands along the proposed pipeline route-- revealing the community’s serious concerns about losing protection for our scenic National Trails and National Parks.

The event coincides with Secretary Zinke’s upcoming national monument status recommendations which will be released within the next week. A change in their designation statuses puts 27 national monuments at risk of drilling, clearcutting and development.

What: A community gathering and solidarity hike along the Appalachian Trail to demonstrate our reverence for our scenic trails and national parks.

When: Saturday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Where: Pearisburg Community Center, 1410 Wenonah Ave, Pearisburg, VA 24134

Who: Sierra Club Virginia Chapter, Sierra Club Roanoke Group, Preserve Giles, Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Appalachian Voices, Bold Alliance
