KAMAS, UT. --  Local organizers and community members will host a call-to-action event in an effort to fight back a Trump-ordered review of Utah’s national monuments-- Bears Ears and Grand Staircase- Escalante. The evening will feature leaders from Utah Dine Bikeyah, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, Sierra Club and members of the community. The group will highlight the strides the community has made in protecting Utah’s public lands, and stress the importance of continued collaboration to protect these places for the state’s economy, wildlife and residents.

The event will feature an aerial photo of all participants-- expecting a huge crowd to make for an impressive visual. The Public Lands Day of Action event comes just days before Sec. Zinke’s final monument recommendation, which puts Grand Staircase- Escalante on the chopping block. Zinke has already proposed stripping in size Bears Ears National Monument.
