PHOENIX, AZ -- Today, Trump’s administration will announce selected vendors for construction of concrete wall prototypes for a wall along the U.S.- Mexico border. The construction threatens local communities, wildlife and wild spaces.

In response, Sierra Club Borderlands Organizer Dan Millis released the following statement:

"While people across the country are uniting to help each other following Hurricane Harvey, the Trump administration is pushing ahead its divisive plan for a wall along the U.S.- Mexico border. The wall prototypes will be literal concrete reminders of this administration’s harsh plot to target immigrant families for deportations that would shatter lives and shred the fabric of tight knit border communities.

"We cannot sacrifice community safety, environmental health or our public lands for a false sense of security that uses debunked myths to fearmonger and ignite hateful actions. Plans for a border wall-- including this prep work--and absolutely any funds for its construction must be abandoned.”
