Detroit, MI -- In support of the clean car standards, the Sierra Club and leading health and consumer advocates are hosting a public hearing and rally this Thursday to advocate for the critical standards. Andrew Wheeler’s EPA and the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration are expected to release its plan to gut the clean car standards in the near future. Those standards, which had been agreed to by automakers, labor unions, environmental groups, and the EPA, Department of Transportation, and California, would limit carbon pollution by 6 billion tons, save consumers $1.7 trillion dollars in fuel costs, and reduce oil consumption by up to 4 million barrels every day.

What: The People’s Hearing on Cars and Climate, a public hearing and panel advocating for Andrew Wheeler’s EPA and NHTSA to maintain the clean car standards in their current form.

When: Thursday, July 26, 2018 at 4pm.

Where: Cass Corridor Commons, 4605 Cass Ave, Detroit, MI 48201.

Who: Speakers include:

  • Andrew Linhardt, Deputy Advocacy Director, Sierra Club Clean Transportation for All Campaign

  • Kindra Weid, RN, MPH, critical care registered nurse of over 18 years and public health advocate.

  • Jeff Alson, retired engineer, Environmental Protection Agency
