SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Today, Will Hurd was added onto the list of Congressional representatives the Sierra Club is working to oust as part of its “Fossil Fools 2018” campaign. Fossil Fools is an aggressive midterm electoral ad campaign, launched early this month by the Sierra Club Political Committee, targeting nearly a dozen incumbent Congressional Republicans and candidates for defeat.

Hurd joined the list of “Fossil Fools” Wednesday because, like them, he has made his allegiance to corporate polluters clear by voting repeatedly against climate action and clean air and water protections. Congressman Hurd has an abysmal 2% environmental voting record according to the League of Conservation Voters Scorecard, and he voted with the environment 3% of the time last year. Since first running for Congress, he has taken $702,956 from oil and gas interests.

“Will Hurd and his fellow Fossil Fools in Congress vote day in and day out with corporate polluters instead of their constituents, allowing polluters to defile clean air and water with impunity while ignoring the climate crisis,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “Fortunately, voters have an opportunity to vote out the Fossil Fools in November and elect leaders who will boldly rewrite the rules of the economy so it works for our families, the middle class, and our kids again.”

Voters can learn more about the Fossil Fools and Hurd and on FossilFools2018.com.

The Fossil Fools website is accompanied by an aggressive social media and digital ad buy nationwide in the Fossil Fools’ districts, including Texas’ 23rd congressional district, informing their constituents of how frequently these candidates vote with polluters instead of families and our kids.

“Our aggressive ad campaign will make clear to the people of Southwest Texas that Will Hurd is a Fossil Fool who will do anything to help polluters instead of his constituents,” said Sierra Club National Political Director Ariel Hayes. “There’s more to come, so stay tuned.”

As part of the Sierra Club Political Committee’s ongoing 2018 Fossil Fools campaign, additional, targeted ad buys will be announced in the future.

Will Hurd joins a list of Fossil Fools in the House of Representatives including Reps Barbara Comstock (VA-10), Dana Rohrabacher (CA-48), Tom McClintock (CA-04), Steve Knight (CA-25), David Brat (VA-07), Mike Coffman (CO-06), Peter Roskam (IL-06), and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05).
