WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, in his speech at CERAWeek (Cambridge Energy Research Associates), EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler said that “that those who oppose U.S. fossil fuel production are actually taking the most environmentally preferable energy source off the table for the rest of the world.”

  • Burning coal emits sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, particulate pollution, carbon dioxide, as well as mercury and other heavy metals polluting our air and our climate.

  • Along with the propensity to spill, refining and burning oil emits carbon dioxide, smog, and other air pollutants.

  • Fracking gas pollutes waterways and contributes to climate disruption.

In response, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director Liz Perera released the following statement:

"Today, coal lobbyist turned EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler confirmed what we’ve long known to be true -- his knowledge of the environment and human health is just as polluted as the companies that used to sign his paychecks.”
