Washington, DC-- Today, Secretary of the Interior Bernhardt officially extended the Bureau of Land Management Acting Director Pendley’s appointment until June 5, 2020.

In response, Lena Moffitt, Director of the Sierra Club’s Our Wild America campaign, released the following statement:

“In the midst of an ongoing public health crisis, we need leaders who will fight for the protection of lands and waters to safeguard people. But William Pendley’s tenure at the agency is defined by dangerous decisions that undo decades of conservation efforts-- opening large swaths of land to oil and gas drilling, and threatening the health of wild places and communities. He is unfit to continue as leader of the BLM.”
