Washington, DC -- Tonight, President Biden will give his first joint address to Congress. In his address, the president is expected to speak about his administration’s response to the ongoing pandemic and the work that lies ahead. That includes the bold and aggressive actions he and his administration have taken during its first 100 days, including on tackling the climate crisis, the introduction of the American Jobs Plan, and the unveiling of his American Families Plan.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune and President Ramón Cruz released the following statement:

“Following a racist and despicable administration more focused on empowering and enriching polluters and the wealthiest few, President Biden has decisively worked to protect communities, safeguard our clean air and water, and enact a serious, science-based response to the ongoing pandemic. From the climate crisis to the pandemic to racial injustice to economic inequality, we continue to face multiple, interconnected crises that demand bold action at the size and scale necessary to create an equitable and just society where each of us can thrive.

“Over President Biden’s first 100 days, he has shown that he is prepared to invest in the work required, and that even with the successes so far, he recognizes that our work is far from over. We are committed to redoubling our efforts alongside this administration and leaders in Congress to deliver an American Jobs Plan and an American Families Plan rooted in the THRIVE principles that work for all.”
