Washington, DC – Late last night, in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote, the Senate passed the FY2022 appropriations package. The House of Representatives did the same the night prior. The bill, which includes modest increases in key funding provisions, sets an initial course for ensuring the Biden Administration is equipped with the funding necessary for the federal government to function as a whole.

In response, Sierra Club Director People and Nature Policy Kirin Kennedy released the following statement:

“The Sierra Club applauds Congress for taking the necessary action and passing a budget that adequately funds the government. Continuing to operate one day more under the anti-environment, anti-climate action, anti-clean air and water Trump Budget was simply not an option. This bill is a critical step towards beginning to funding the federal government and equipping agencies to fulfill their mission.

“Now that this has passed, we look forward to President Biden unveiling his budget and working with Congressional leaders to craft and pass a clean bill that meets its ambitious plans and values.”
