MEDIA ADVISORY: Activists call on U.S. Forest Service to protect mature, old-growth forests

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- More than 410,000 people have submitted public comments to the U.S. Forest Service calling for the agency to adopt a rule that protects mature and old-growth trees and forests on federal land as a cornerstone of U.S. climate policy. Activists will join organizers from the Climate Forests Campaign, a coalition which includes Environment America Research & Policy Center and Sierra Club, to deliver some of these public comments at an event near the Forest Service headquarters on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 10:40 a.m. ET.

When: Thursday, July 20, 2023, 10:40 a.m ET. (Activists will begin to arrive at 10:30 a.m.)

Where: Grassy area bounded by Jefferson Dr. SW / 14th St. SW / Independence Ave. SW / Raoul Wallenberg Pl. SW. The group will then cross the street to the Yates Building (201 14th St SW, Washington, DC 20227) to deliver the comments.

Visuals: Organizers and activists holding signs in support of protecting mature and old-growth forests. There will also be printed copies of some of the public comments in large boxes with the final number of comments and organizational logos printed on the sides.
