Beyond Dirty Fuels

Tranforming Virginia into a clean energy leader
Moving the Commonwealth away from dirty energy

Over the past few years, we have worked to prevent one of the largest proposed coal plants in the country from being built in Surry County, retire the Potomac River Coal Plant in Alexandria, put an end to mountain-top removal mining.

We have also helped to ensure responsible siting of transmission lines and coal ash disposal, address toxic coal dust, and pass important safeguards to protect our families from the harmful pollution of coal-burning power plants.

Virginia is at the center of the nation's movement beyond coal and at crossroads on clean energy. Standing in the way is Dominion Virginia Power, our state's largest utility, Big Coal, and leaders that curry favor with these moneyed corporations.

Dominion could transform our state into an American clean energy leader by building at least 3,000 megawatts (MW) of wind and solar power in Virginia, but so far has failed to build a single wind farm or large-scale solar project in the state.

Our utility company’s reliance on dirty energy like coal makes our kids sick and puts our communities at risk. It’s time to make our state a leader by investing in Virginia-made clean, renewable energy like wind, solar and energy efficiency to power our homes, schools and businesses!
