The Piedmont Group endeavors to fulfill the Sierra Club's mission “to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth…"

Our group serves Charlottesville City and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock in central Virginia.  We currently have over 1100 members.

Leadership of our group is the responsibility of an Executive Committee (EXCOM) elected by the general membership.  The EXCOM meets every month in Charlottesville.  Any member in good standing may be a candidate for election to the EXCOM.

The Piedmont Group sponsors about six programs a year to educate the public about important environmental issues and opportunities for outdoor adventure.  Our members work at information booths at local festivals and advocate for a healthy community.   Check the Activities Calendar to view upcoming events, meetings and outings.   To get email notifications of these activities, join the Piedmont Group's e-mail list below (right).

Sierra Club members often meet with government leaders to lobby for legislation and we support candidates for public office who have a solid environmental record.

Our outings leaders organize hikes on local trails and in the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains.  We have hikes for all age groups and levels of experience.

The Sierra Club provides opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, make friends, and advocate for the natural environment.  Please join us!
