From Skaneateles to Syracuse: An Unfiltered Journey

Shannon Fabiani, Water and Ecology Specialist with Cornell Cooperative Extension, will give a talk on watershed ecology and water quality stewardship in Onondaga County. The talk will focus on the Skaneateles Lake Watershed Programs, supported by the City of Syracuse to protect the unfiltered drinking water drawn from Skaneateles Lake. Fabiani will cover watershed ecology, drinking water supply system, and best practices for homeowners and landowners to protect water quality in our communities.

At CCE, Shannon Fabiani works to connect the community to our shared natural resources through education, outreach, and creating stewardship opportunities in the community. She also delivers the Water Quality Education Program for the Skaneateles Lake Watershed. The Long Island native received her Master of Professional Studies from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Environmental Communication with a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Decision Making. She also holds a B.A. from SUNY New Paltz in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and Disaster Studies.

Shannon has developed and delivered educational programs, interpretive materials, and community stewardship opportunities with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYS Parks, and now CCE. Shannon strives to empower and inspire learning, curiosity, and appreciation for our shared natural resources while connecting residents to opportunities to be active stewards of our environment and our community.
