PS 241 Hiking at Van Cortlandt Park!

June 11, 2022: NYC ICO Cat Rock leader Andrew Negron led PS 241 fourth and fifth graders in Van Cortlandt Park. Armed with the camping backpack from his recent trip on the Appalachian Trail, he shared his adventure with the group - distance, camping techniques, challenges, joys. He taught Leave No Trace, to make sure everyone packed out what they packed in, sharing some snacks and water to use as an example. The hike was comprised of cross country trails and off-path dirt trails. He showed the kids how to use a trail map and look out for / utilize a loop. We stopped at a little river for a mini wade and ended the afternoon with a game he taught. A fun day of learning and exploration was had by all. Thank you Andrew!!
