12/19/25: Despite the rainy weather, 4th grade students from Samara Community School had an incredible trip at Westmoreland Sanctuary. They are currently answering the question, "What lessons can we learn from the indigenous people of the Eastern woodlands and the way they used natural resources around them?" At Westmoreland, they learned all about animal tracking and learned how indigenous people use all parts of the animals they hunt. They were able to observe and touch a deer antler, turtle shell, and snake's skin. They also played a game where they needed to identify different animal pelts. To conclude the day, students explored the nature center, where they were able to see a variety of live animals, such as a hissing cockroach and a snake, as well as a box turtle and learn about their adaptations.
