Peanut Leap Cascade Loop, Palisades Interstate Park with The YWLS of the Bronx

April 18, 2026: On April 18, 2026, the students from TYWLS of the Bronx traveled to the Peanut Leap Cascade Trail in Palisades Interstate Park for a day of hiking and exploration. Besides the group leader, the group consisted of  10 students, one teacher, and two volunteers. During the drive, students became excited as they caught views of the Hudson River and the cliffs overlooking the water. When the group arrived, the weather was chilly and windy, but the students embraced the conditions with excitement and energy. Before beginning the hike, everyone gathered in a circle to introduce themselves and share how they felt about being outdoors. Four students mentioned that they did not usually enjoy outdoor activities, and only a few students had been hiking before. Even so, everyone seemed ready and excited to begin the adventure.

The trail began with a long descent through the woods, giving students a chance to experience a mix of different terrains along the way. Some sections were rocky, while others were smoother forest paths surrounded by trees and fresh spring greenery. As the group continued deeper into the trail, students became more comfortable and started enjoying the experience more and more.

Throughout the hike, the group stopped at several scenic viewpoints overlooking the Hudson River and the east side of New York. The views from the cliffs were breathtaking, and many students paused to take photos, admire the scenery, and enjoy the fresh air. Along the trail, the students also reached a small waterfall flowing gently over the rocks. Everyone gathered around to take pictures and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before continuing further down the trail.

After the waterfall, the group made a small descent toward the final point of the hike near the river. Reaching the water felt rewarding after the long walk, and students enjoyed resting near the river while taking in the natural surroundings.

On the way back, the hike became more challenging because of the steep ascent. Students encouraged one another as they climbed back up the trail, pushing through the harder sections together. During the return hike, one of the students spotted a snake near the trail, which quickly became one of the most exciting and memorable moments of the day.
