Volunteer Positions

Our work is focused in four areas: Conservation, Ready for 100% Clean Energy, Political, and Equity, Inlclusion & Justice. Unlike most Sierra Club groups we do not have set monthly meetings for the entire group - althoguh our teams usually meet each month. To fit better with various schedules and geographic areas, we have events across our area at different times. In the post-coronavirus era we will start having many events (rallys, socials, meetings, education prorgams, festival outreach etc.) plus meetings with government officials and those who want to be elected. There will be plenty to do. Please see our website calendar, facebook events or meetup for listing of activities or email volunteer@suncoastsierra.org and let us know which team you want to join.

Do you have a particular skill set? These skills are always needed:

Outings Leaders: WE REALLY NEED OUTING LEADERS!!! Love the outdoors, go on a hike, kayak or walk every once in a while or maybe every weekend? Why not take some people with you to explore the environment. Outings are specialized around a unique theme or activity, you could be backpacking, kayaking, bicycling, or doing service work - it's up to you to choose, because you design and lead your very own outing. Training is required - outings leader training, first aid.

Tabling/Outreach Volunteer Coordinator: We participate in several fairs and festivals throughout the year and need coordinators for the volunteer base (build a schedule, send out info to volunteers on the where, what, when info). Does not take much time and can be done from home. Awesome if you can attend the festival you organize but it is not required. We utilize MeetUp and Facebook to recruit tabling volunteers and have a solid base of volunteers established (can always use more).

Event Organizers: Organize one or many - it is up to you. Would you like to see Sierra Club close to where you are? Have a topic or activity you want to share with the group. Organize a social, cleanup, tree planting, fundraiser or educational program in your area. Pick the subject, date/time and place - we can help with everything else!

Participate in the Leadership of the Suncoast Group

Monthly leadership meetings are at 6:30 PM on the second Thursdays of the month (except for January). Currently being held online. Please email volunteer@suncoastsierra.org if you are interested in attending. In mid-January, we host our annual strategy session - to assign leadership roles and outline major events and goals for the year.

The Sierra Club needs you! We have approximately 4000 members in our area and every one increases our influence in the region.
