You can help protect our future at the Indiana Legislature
January 9, 2025
Everything you may want to know about what's at stake this year to protect our progress.
Last fall, we highlighted that we are expecting big policy decisions this year impacting renewable energy, the quality and availability of Indiana waters and funding for conserving the public lands we love.
That's why I'm inviting you to join us at the legislature this year as we gather with partners and fellow Hoosiers in advocating for our communities and our environment in Indiana.
The Indiana legislative session includes three special days where we can show up together and make our voices heard on important environmental issues - Renewable Energy Day, Water Stewardship Day, and Conservation Day. Here's how to get involved - we'll be with you every step of the way!
Renewable Energy Day
Tuesday, January 21
9 AM - 3 PM
Join us and Solar United Neighbors at Renewable Energy Day to advocate for an affordable renewable energy future for Hoosiers. Free bus transportation available from Evansville, Merrillville, and Fort Wayne. Reserve your seat on the bus by January 17.
Over the last decade, the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign and our allies have moved three quarters of Indiana's coal plants towards retirement by 2030. Now, some Indiana lawmakers and the coal industry want to bail out aging and expensive coal plants.
You may recall that last year state legislators passed House Enrolled Act (HEA) 1383 which removed critical protections for wetlands in Indiana. Wetlands play a crucial role in replenishing our groundwater supplies, naturally trapping climate pollution, and providing habitat that supports biodiversity.
We love getting outdoors. Whether visiting the Hoosier National Forest, the Lakeshore on Lake Michigan, or wetlands along the Ohio River, there are so many places that help make Indiana home. State leaders will pass a budget for the State of Indiana that will determine how much funding will go to state parks and trails.
We have a busy few months ahead as we advocate for affordable clean energy for all Hoosiers, strengthen efforts to steward our waters, and ensure Indiana invests in our state parks and public lands for all Hoosiers to enjoy.
I look forward to seeing you at the State Capitol this year!
Thanks for all you do for the environment,
