Happy 25th Anniversary to us!
Did you know? The Winding Waters Group is celebrating its 25th year in 2025! We’ve come a long way since our founding in 2000, and look forward to the next 25 years with you on board. Our growth and success depends on our members and supporters. Learn more about the establishment and growth of the Winding Waters group in next month's newsletter!
Please join us at our monthly gathering at the Bartholomew County Library for our outreach program.
This is your chance to come together with others to listen, express your thoughts, and engage in conversation about our environment today. We can’t wait to see you!
I helped to establish the Winding Waters Group of the Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter 25 years ago in 2000, but my love for nature started when my part-time job recycling newspapers as a student at Indiana University in 1970 connected me to the inaugural Earth Day celebration. I was hooked, and my love for nature grew into an appreciation of native plant species.
For years I transplanted native plants from my family's homestead in rural Bartholomew County to my urban home in Columbus, educating and encouraging friends around me to do the same. Eventually my friend Art Hopkins encouraged me to take the leap and establish a Sierra Club group in Columbus, and many of those first members are still active volunteers with the Winding Waters Group today.
One of my proudest accomplishments as a Winding Waters member was the establishment of Anderson Falls as an Indiana State Protected Nature Preserve in 2004, protecting it from any future sale and development.
All of us at the Winding Waters Group welcome you and look forward to learning about your environmental passions! Please join us at our many events.
