Water Stewardship Day was Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Indiana Statehouse from 9-3pm. In addition to Sierra Clubbers, there were business leaders, other environmental nonprofits, policymakers, and community members who enjoyed the day!
There are many reasons why Hoosiers feel strongly about protecting our waters. Whether their family has a place at the lake and every summer they get together to enjoy a bit of the watery outdoors, or they spend a day out in one of our public lands that has a stream babbling through, Hoosiers care about our waters.
Wetlands, lakes, streams, rivers, creeks, and groundwater - we want our elected officials to make sure that all of our waters are protected from polluters. From PFAS to plastics, from data centers to LEAP projects, there are plenty of reasons to be concerned about the state and use of Hoosier waters.
It was a great day to share our love for waters! Learning from one another and sharing our concerns with our elected officials were some of the actions we took to care for Hoosier waters. If you would like to do something to care for Hoosier waters and don’t want to wait until next Water Stewardship Day, you can take action right now!
There is a harmful bill currently working its way through the Indiana Statehouse - SB 277. This weakens the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s (IDEM) ability to hold polluters accountable putting our lands and waters at risk. If you’d like to learn more and take action, you can do so here.
Thanks to all who made our Water Stewardship Day happen! And thanks to all those who were able to attend! We look forward to seeing you next year!
