I am writing this from my back deck, literally under a rainbow courtesy of these rolling summer storms we’ve been experiencing lately.
I think this may be a common experience for a lot of folks during this month: I have been reflecting on my earliest experiences and memories of Pride celebrations and how meaningful community has been, whether we were coming together to grieve our losses, organize in response to attacks, or celebrating monumental joys. While I was reflecting I remembered a post I read last June about the legacy at Sierra Club of Pride Groups, Outings, and 2SLGBTQIAA+ Organizing. It is pretty incredible!
The throughline when I think of Pride is community being at the center of it all.
This is true at Hoosier Chapter too, and I am so glad to have been welcomed into a community that is filled with so much Pride—not just in June but all year long!
We hope you’ll join us to celebrate.
With gratitude and immeasurable and irrepressible Pride, Colleen Curtin Chapter Outreach Coordinator

📚Join Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter’s June Book Club
Our Book Club this month is Pride themed and we encourage you to join us for Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature by Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian on Tuesday 6/30.
All are welcome at Book Club and as always a gentle reminder that it is totally okay to show up to Book Club having read all of the book, some of the book, thought about reading the book, or looking for a pitch to sell you on reading the book. ALL are welcome!
The goal of this space is to facilitate conversation and there is not a quiz at the end or an objective beyond learning more about issues we care about and cultivating community with one another. We look forward to the opportunity to connect, share about, and reflect on the issues, themes, and excerpts that resonated with you in the book.
🏕️Powerful Work We Want to Uplift This Pride Month
I want to highlight a program that is near to this former Summer Camp Director’s heart. CampOUT is an opportunity for 2SLGBTQIAA+ 12-17 year olds to experience a week of summer camp in a safe, supportive, and affirming space.
This unique partnership program between Jameson Camp and IYG and sponsored in part by Indy Pride allows young queer folks from across Indiana — some of whom have faced unprecedented attacks not just on their community but on their very own identities — to spend a week outdoors steeped in nature and community.
One of the reasons I appreciate this program so much is because Jameson Camp offers scholarships for up to 95% of the cost of camp for young folks who need assistance in order to participate. I encourage you to visit IYG.org and learn more about the critical work they are doing across Indiana.
