๐Thank you for showing up this past month ๐
There were several events across the Heartlands Group area this Earth Month including Meet Up events in Hamilton and Boone Counties, our Monthly Group Meeting, and Heartlanders joined our Partners with Protect Pike for a wonderful Earth Month Event at Eagle Creek Park where they were joined by Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter Director, Robyn Skyua-Boss.
Special thanks to Sarah Goss for joining us for the Boone County Meet Up event and sharing information about how we can continue to support important work on water issues in Marion, Hendricks, Hamilton, and Boone Counties.
Inspired by the Heartlands Groupโs swiftly approaching 50th anniversary, and a couple of wonderful conversations this month with long time Heartlands member Monica Cannaley and Jesse Kirkham about the impactful history of the Heartlands Group, look for a program with them this summer about this history and the legacy of environmentalism and climate advocacy we walk in today. One way we can preserve that legacy and ensure that Heartlands continues to be here for the next generation of Hoosier environmentalists in Marion, Boone, Madison, Hendricks, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson, and Shelby Counties is to show up for this community today. The best way to do that is to attend our monthly meetings, programs, hikes, and events.

๐ฃ Keep Spreading the Word ๐ฃ Protect Heartlands Area Water
Thank you to all those who have already signed our petition to let Mayor Hogsett know that you want him to protect Eagle Creek and our drinking water, and to call for an independent study of the Citizens-Lebanon Water Supply Program!
If you havenโt yet signed, we are calling on the City of Indianapolis, as the owner of Eagle Creek, to use its voice and power to protect our ecosystem and water supply.
Please help spread the word by sending this link to your Indy friends: sc.org/indymayor.
Not a Marion County resident? You can take action too by signing and sharing our petition for statewide leaders like Indiana Governor Mike Braun to intervene: bit.ly/actnowbraun
๐ฟ Join us this month to become an Outings Leader with Sierra Club ๐ฟ
We welcome new folks who would like to join our team of Outings Leaders. No matter your background or experience, weโd love to hear from you.
Come to our Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter: Summer Outing Leader Training Orientation on May 11 to find out more!
๐Join our Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter Book Club๐
Join us for the 2nd year of our Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter Book Club! This year we have some fantastic reading selections as well as opportunities for members to submit suggestions for future books. Have a book you want to see us read this year? Submit your recommendation here or via email to colleen.curtin@sierraclub.org.
Join us this month for The Great Displacement: Climate Change and the Next American Migration by Jake Bittle and again in June for our Pride Month read Forest Euphoria: The Abounding Queerness of Nature by Patricia Ononiwu Kaishian.
Gentle reminder that it is totally okay to show up to Book Club having read all of the book, some of the book, thought about reading the book, or looking for a pitch to sell you on reading the book. ALL are welcome! Also a reminder that the goal of this space is to facilitate conversation and there is not a quiz at the end or an objective beyond learning more about issues we care about and cultivating community with one another. We look forward to the opportunity to connect, share about, and reflect on the issues, themes, and excerpts that resonated with you in the book.
