The Sierra Club’s political program is dedicated to electing clean air, clean water, climate and environmental justice champions at all levels of government -- because we know that their decisions will shape the future of our communities and planet. Work in city races is an important part of our strategy for building power: developing future state leaders, as laboratories for policies that can be enacted at a higher level, and to advance equity, improve representation and prepare for elections in 2025.
The Minnesota North Star Chapter of the Sierra Club is accepting applications for its 2025 Political Committees to review candidates for endorsement in municipal elections in Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. We are seeking a pool of applicants who share the Sierra Club’s goals, are Sierra Club members, and offer a diversity of perspectives on environmental policy priorities and environmental justice issues.
Committees will be responsible for screening candidates for possible endorsement by the Sierra Club in targeted municipal races, recommending endorsements to the chapter Executive Committee, and efforts to support our endorsed candidates. Previous experience with electoral politics is helpful, but not required. Expected time commitment is 2-5 hours per week from May through November 2025.
Applications will be reviewed by a working group appointed by the chapter Executive Committee and final committee membership will be subject to appointment by the Executive Committee. We expect that this will be a competitive process and that we will receive more applicants than there is space for on the committee.
Please apply here, priority deadline for applications by May 12
