2023 Endorsements

Mission 

We work to elect climate and environmental justice champions to offices across Minnesota. We use the collective power of our 50,000 members and supporters to elect officials who will create a just, sustainable future for all. 

What we do

Our volunteer led political committee screens and endorses candidates for political office across Minnesota. Endorsed candidates are then supported by our communications and grassroots organizing led by our SierraVotes team.

Get Involved

During election years, our grassroots organizing in support of our endorsed candidates begins when the legislative session ends (typically June - Nov.) Join our SierraVotes team to be a part of grassroots organizing in support of our endorsed candidates!

Political Committee

The Committee is responsible for screening candidates for possible endorsement by the Sierra Club in legislative, statewide, and Congressional races in Minnesota. We recommend endorsements to the Chapter Executive Committee and work with staff to support our endorsed candidates in their election. This committee is appointed by our Executive Committee.

Endorsements

The Sierra Club has a long and successful tradition of supporting candidates for public office. Electoral work is a critical tool for advancing our work to create a sustainable, just future.

An endorsement from the Sierra Club carries significant weight with our members and identifies candidates as strong supporters of progressive environmental policies. We take the integrity and credibility of our endorsement process very seriously and strive to ensure that no candidate receives our public support without having been thoroughly vetted.

Some factors we may consider in evaluating a potential endorsement include a written candidate questionnaire, an in-person interview with members of our political committee, voting history in public office, previous personal accomplishments in both public office and private life, and viability in the election for which endorsement is being sought.
