There will be three special legislative elections, but they are unlikely to change the balance of power in the House and Senate. You may want to volunteer for the DFL candidate as the elections approach.

With respect to one of the team’s proactive goals last session, uniform roof top solar permitting, the Chapter is sponsoring a program to approach individual cities and get them excited about the idea as a means to assist in statewide passage. A frustration for residents and installers on rooftop solar is the high cost and significant delays caused by the varied ways local governments deal with permits.

Federal energy-related tax credits are still available, but only through December 31, on home appliances and energy efficiency improvements. If you’re thinking of a heat pump or more insulation, act now.

The East Philips Neighborhood’s challenges with the Roof Depot site continue. The Legislature did not provide needed funding so they are negotiating with the City of Minneapolis.

Sierra Club is offering several webinars on guidance for activism against the authoritarian actions of the current administration. Look for emails announcing these events.

If you have contacts with local colleges or universities, you may want to encourage them to support the Big 10 Resistance Group, which is strategizing ways to respond to the administration’s assault on higher education. In most schools, faculties support the action, but administrations have not.
