The 2026 Legislative Session Continues: HB639 - Data Centers for Cryptocurrency Protections Bill - Goes to The NH Gov for Passage
HB639, is the bill that would give more local and state power to absentee crypto mining companies than to the residents of New Hampshire. The bill promotes cryptocurrency mining data centers without local community, consumer, or taxpayer protections. That is right, crypto, or digital assets, AKA blockchain, can be massive computer data centers that demand huge amounts of resources and, in fact, their round-the-clock operations have caused noise, water, and energy disturbances across the country. But legislators pushing this bill do not want you to be able to say no to crypto data centers, because they are cryptocurrency investors looking out for themselves, not New Hampshire.

Roadless Rule Reversal
The proposed rollback of the 2001 Roadless Rule jeopardizes nearly 58 million acres of undeveloped backcountry forestland managed by the U.S. Forest Service, comprising around a third of the territory in our national forest system. These forests have only remained intact because of the Forest Service's nearly 25-year-old commitment not to build roads in these areas for harmful activities like major logging operations or oil-and-gas drilling.

New Hampshire Sierra Club Annual Election of the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee (ExComm) is the official decision-making body of the NH Chapter of the Sierra Club. Seven members serve for two-year staggered terms. The volunteer leadership is a unique quality of the Sierra Club, as volunteers collaborate with staff to shape priorities, strategic planning and campaigns. The Chapter benefits from the talents, expertise, wisdom, and skills of our membership. Working smart with our local knowledge, we can increase the effectiveness of our national and local resources. The Chapter says thank you to those who have served on the Executive Committee since the Chapter was first established in 1992.

Executive Committee Member Responsibilities
- Understand and promote the mission of the Sierra Club
- Attend Executive Committee meetings and General meetings
- Lead and provide educational training and/or conservation opportunities to the general membership
- Promote the Outings Program
- Participate in long range planning
- Actively assist in fundraising activities or contribute financially
- Ensure financial stability and solvency
- Modify and allocate resources; must be consistent with the opportunities, the abilities, and the commitment of the chapter/group
- Monitor, question, and evaluate club activities
- Provide Leadership and Vision within the chapter/group
- Contribute a sense of camaraderie and teamwork

The Chapter Energy Committee is organizing the movement to lower energy costs by holding the utilities accountable for the transmission upgrades and slow walking interconnections. We are picking up the slack by sharing the what is left of the federal tax credits and programs for clean energy in New Hampshire. The volunteer led team of Granite Staters has room for you to help plan, engage and make real progress.
