Flat Laurel Creek Hike - Wednesday, June 18

Join us Wednesday, June 18 for a majestic hike up Flat Laurel Creek to the peak of Sam’s Knob!

We will begin this stunning hike from Highway 215 at the Flat Laurel Creek trailhead at an elevation of around 5,100 feet. The trail climbs up along Flat Laurel Creek, passes two waterfalls, and has multiple stunning views of the mountains and valleys below. We will take the branch trail to the top of Sam’s Knob (6,050 feet) that has 360 degree views! We will then retrace our steps back to the trailhead.

This is a moderately difficult hike with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain and a round-trip distance of about 7.5 miles. We will meet at 9 a.m. in West Asheville (see details below) and should be back to the meeting spot around 4-5 p.m.

If anyone is feeling sick, and/or has a fever, they should not attend this outing. Families are welcome! Any children should be accompanied and supervised by parents or other adult family members. Be sure to bring lunch/snacks, water, and extra layers since we will be up high. Rain gear is always a good idea regardless of the forecast!

We will meet at 9 am in West Asheville at 151 Smokey Park Highway in the parking lot behind Chick-Fil-A. We will sort out carpooling and make the drive to the trailhead in Pisgah National Forest, which will take about 45 minutes.

Please email the hike leader, Ed Maggart, at edmaggart@gmail.com or text at 828-713-0541 to sign up or ask any questions. We will limit the group size to 12. I hope to see you there!!
