Join the WNC Sierra Club on Oct. 1 for a discussion about the effects of microplastics on our health. Anna Alsobrook and Christine Mauck will discuss plastics pollution and the effect of microplastics on human health.
Anna Alsobrook is MountainTrue’s French Broad Riverkeeper. She holds a master’s degree in geography from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Christine Mauck, MD, MPH, is a physician who is board certified in preventive medicine and public health. Since moving to Asheville in 2020, she's been active in PlasticFreeWNC, a coalition of environmental groups including Sierra Club, MountainTrue and Riverkeepers, and heads their Microplastics and Health group. This group has published a brochure on the health effects of plastics as well as several letters to the editor of local papers, and has given talks on this subject. Their goal is to educate the public about the possible adverse effects of plastics and steps that can be taken to reduce these effects.
The WNC Sierra Club meets monthly in person and on Zoom.
