Big Laurel Creek Trail Hike - Saturday, Jan. 17

Join us for a scenic riverside adventure along Big Laurel Creek. This easy out-and-back trail follows the creek for 3.7 miles to its confluence with the French Broad River, where we’ll pause for lunch near the train tracks before heading back. The total distance will be 7.4 miles roundtrip.

Hike Details

  • Difficulty: Easy, with minimal elevation change
  • Duration: Approximately 4–4.5 hours at a relaxed pace, including breaks
  • Highlights: Unobstructed views of the rushing river, striking boulder gardens, remnants of the historic logging town of Runion, and plenty of photo opportunities.

What to Bring

  • At least 1–2 liters of water
  • Lunch and/or snacks
  • Layers suitable for winter weather (it can be especially chilly along the river)
  • The trail includes sections of exposed rock, so sturdy hiking boots with ankle support are strongly recommended.
  • Hiking poles can also be helpful for stability and comfort along the route.
  • Rain gear (always recommended, regardless of forecast)

Important Notes
If you are feeling unwell or have a fever, please do not attend. Families are welcome! Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Dogs are not permitted on this hike.
