Four Peaks Hike, Black Mountains Crest Trail - Saturday, Sept. 5

Join us Sept. 5 for the Four Peaks hike on Black Mountain Crest Trail to Cattail Peak and back. (This is a repeat of a hike happening on Aug. 20.)

This is another high elevation hike on a portion of the 11 mile Black Mountain Crest Trail. We will start from the Mt. Mitchell State Park picnic area and hike along the crest approximately 2.5 miles to Cattail Peak, crossing Mt. Craig and Balsam Cone peaks on the way.

If skies are clear, the views will be exceptional. The first part of the hike is completely in the State Park, then with the Black Mountain Roadless Area of the Pisgah National Forest on the East and the State Park on the West.

If we are in a cloud - it will be mysterious.

The hike will feature high elevation fauna, including the Fraser Fir (f.k.a. Balsam Fir). We will also see evidence of landslides caused by Helene. Hopefully, it will be significantly cooler than the valley. The outing will last approximately 5-6 hours.

Level: Moderate
