About the Lehigh Valley Group

We are the Lehigh Valley Group of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Sierra Club, the world’s oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

The Lehigh Valley Group, including 1,500 members in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, and Monroe counties, is dedicated to protecting communities and wild places through conservation and other environmental projects, grassroots activism, and public education.

The Lehigh Valley Group was founded in 1978 by Jeff Schmidt, Doug Roysdon, and Paul McHale. Schmidt became the first director of the Pennsylvania Chapter in 1983 and served in that role for over 30 years until 2013 when Joanne Kilgour, became Chapter Director. She was succeeded by Tom Torres, the current Chapter Director. Paul McHale became the U.S. Congressman for the Lehigh Valley. Doug Roysdon remains a member of the Lehigh Valley Group Executive Committee.
