They created the Sierra Club to, in Muir’s words, “do something for wildness and make the mountains glad.” It is a nonprofit, member-supported, public interest organization that promotes conservation of the natural environment by influencing public policy decisions, whether they be legislative, administrative, legal, and electoral.
