Tara Shakespeare Will Bring New Leadership On Protecting Pennsylvania’s Environment!

The Sierra Club is proud to endorse Tara Shakespeare, Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania House District 88, in the General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.

Tara is running to make Pennsylvania more inclusive, prosperous, and equitable. A problem-solver by nature, Tara says she is ready to stand up and fight for our families and neighbors, and to make Pennsylvania proud. The 2016 election made her aware of how endangered our social norms are and of the fragility of the protections of our way of life.

Coming from a small business background, Tara understands the importance of engaging in thoughtful and open communication, whether with leadership on both sides of the aisle or with community business leaders and environmental organizations like Sierra Club.

For the past 15 years, Tara has proudly dedicated her career to working in Finance and Human Resources with a variety of small businesses to help ensure their success.

Candidate Tara Shakespeare

In 2015, she began actively working with the Harrisburg Area Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). Through her work with NOW, she gained new perspectives on the intersectional nature of inequality plaguing Pennsylvania, especially women, Black and indigenous people of color, people in the LGBTQ+ community, the poor, sick, and the otherwise marginalized. The poor air quality in her district has prompted Tara to work on saving green spaces and to advocate for better public transit.

Tara lives in Lower Allen Township with her husband and two rescue dogs. She is challenging six-term Republican incumbent Sheryl Delozier, who has a lifetime environmental scorecard rating of 19, but in the most recent term scored a 0. Tara says that her opponent is a career politician who only shows up in the community at election time and spends the rest of her time supporting polluters and voting against healthcare and environmental initiatives. She is using social media to expose Delozier’s voting record and is reaching out to Republican women who are becoming more and more uneasy with the Republican agenda.

As people who care about the environment, we strongly encourage all Sierra Club members to support Tara Shakespeare's campaign with your time, talents and money. The only way we can get good candidates elected is to dedicate some of our time and hard work to supporting their efforts.
