We’ve Endorsed Mom-Turned-Activist Shanna Danielson For State Senate

The Sierra Club is pleased to endorse Shanna Danielson, Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania Senate’s 31st District in the General Election on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.

Shanna and her team are working hard to wake up non-voters and to win over Republican voters in this traditionally Republican district. Yet, Governor Tom Wolf won the district in 2018. With the political winds tending favorably toward reform, Shanna sees the Republican incumbent as a target she can take on.

Shanna is challenging Republican incumbent, Mike Regan, who has an environmental scorecard of 0. He is the prime sponsor of the bill that would make it a felony to impede or try to stop a natural gas pipeline at the construction site.

Shanna became politically active when former Governor Tom Corbett proposed huge education cuts, which as a public school teacher upset her. Then came Sandy Hook. The shooting and killing of 20 children and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 led her to join MOMS Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. In 2018, she became its legislative lead. Since then, Shanna has been active in Capital Region Stands Up, Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and is a founding member of the Northern York Democratic Club.

Candidate Shanna Danielson

Shanna knows the dangers of climate change, sees air pollution as a serious problem, and understands that we need new leadership to address environmental concerns. Shanna and her team are appealing to voters from all parts of the political spectrum to recognize that clean air and clean water are universal needs.

Shanna lives in Dillsburg with her husband Eric, son Elliott, and four rescue cats. She has a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University, and earned the Outstanding Young Music Educator Award during her time at Cameron County schools. She has also taught at Cumberland Valley and East Pennsboro School Districts. Most recently, she serves as Director of Education and Events at Pennsylvania Music Education Association and continues to teach. This is her second run for the legislature.

As a member of the Sierra Club, I hope we can count on your support – time, talent and treasure – and elect Shanna Danielson to the Pennsylvania Senate.
