March 2025 Program
Loving Bluebirds
‘
Former president Don Hazel, former president of the Tennessee Bluebird Society, gave a great hands-on presentation of the right ways to encourage bluebird nesting and conservation in Middle TN. Hazel exhibited the nesting-box components advocated by the society, and he advised participants on how to set up and maintain nesting boxes.
The Tennessee Bluebird Society promotes bluebird and other native cavity-nesting bird conservation, and develops public awareness, educational programs, and workshops. Hazel will have on hand some boxes and poles for sale/donation.
Don Hazel was one of the founding members of the Cumberland County Bluebird Club (CCBC) in 2017, after he and three others took over the monitoring of 25 bluebird nest boxes on the Bear Trace golf course. Today this local chapter of the Tennessee Bluebird Society, committed to promoting Eastern bluebird and other native cavity-nesting bird conservation, has grown to more than 180 members, half of whom are active as volunteer monitors of 400 nest boxes in Cumberland County.
