Growing Your Own Food by Nashville Foodscapes
We learned all about growing your own food in small spaces at the June program meeting! The folks at Nashville Foodscapes presented ideas for turning back patios, apartment decks, even your lawn, into food-growing spaces. Nashville Foodscapes shared tips and tricks for eating fresh food right from your own yard.
Full-sun grass areas can be transformed into raised beds that combine plants for bees, butterflies and other pollinators with a simple selection of kitchen greens and herbs. Tomatoes will grow in containers that can be placed on caddies and rolled to sunnier areas during the day. Or do you have an area where you could go vertical for climbing veggies? Many backyard gardeners team with neighbors to share labor and harvests, collect vegetable scraps for community composting, and share seeds.
