Fun Bird Facts & Conservation
with Melinda Welton
Biologist Melinda Welton is back by popular demand to lead another memorable session on local birding! Melinda focused on current conservation efforts in Middle Tennessee, and shared more fun bird facts.
Melinda has been involved in bird conservation since overseeing the reintroduction of bald eagles and peregrine falcons in North Carolina in the 1980s. Her work has taken her from the mountains of Northeast Tennessee to Central America, identifying lands essential to bird migration. The cerulean warbler has inspired much of her work. Currently she is a board member of TennGreen Land Conservancy, co-chair of the Conservation Committee for the Tennessee Ornithological Society, co-founder of Bird Safe Nashville, and she serves on the Purple Martin Task Force.
